Summary:
As a tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences, the person in this position will teach courses for the Pollution Monitoring and Control track of the Environmental Science and Technology degree program. Teaching responsibilities will include lower-division introductory courses in environmental science and pollution science, as well as upper-division courses on pollution detection, monitoring and mitigation, and regulatory compliance. The person in this position will also teach lab courses that have both laboratory and field components.
The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours of in-person courses per semester. Scholarship in the discipline, involvement with advising, and service to the department and profession are expected
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Effectively teaching 12 credit hours per semester of pollution and other environmental science courses and labs.
Conducting scholarship in the discipline that involves undergraduate students.
Advising undergraduate students.
Participating in service activities at the department, university, community, and professional levels.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
• Ph.D. in Environmental Science or a closely related science (chemistry, botany, ecology, geology, agronomy), or M.S. in the above with 5 years of professional experience.
• Effectiveness in teaching, enthusiasm for working with and an ability to inspire undergraduate students at all levels, and an aptitude to teach excellent communication skills are required.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct quality scholarship in the field of pollution monitoring and control.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Professional experience in pollution monitoring and control, especially in soil and ground water, and/or U.S. regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated teaching experience at the college/university level (2 years preferred).
